Pompeo heads to Saudi Arabia, UAE for Iran crisis talks
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday he will visit Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for chats on the emergency started by Iran's bringing down an American automaton.
"We'll be conversing with them about how to ensure that we are for the most part deliberately adjusted and how we can work out a worldwide alliance" on Iran, he said.
Iran shot down a US Global Hawk ramble on Thursday, saying it had disregarded its airspace close to the key Strait of Hormuz - a case the United States denies.
US President Donald Trump canceled an arranged retaliatory military strike Friday, saying the reaction would not have been "proportionate," with Tehran cautioning any assault would see Washington's interests over the Middle East go up on fire.
Pompeo said he would stop in the two nations on his approach to India, where he starts a visit on Tuesday.
Addressing columnists as he left Washington, Pompeo called Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates "extraordinary partners in the test that Iran presents."
