New rules for NRI marriages announced by Indian govt

All Non Resident Indian (NRI) marriages must be registered within 48 hours, the Indian government announced.

In a tweet, the official account of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, said: “All Non Resident Indian marriages must be registered within 48 hours.”

Announcing this, Union Minister of Women and Child Development (WCD) Maneka Gandhi said: “Passport and visas will not be issued if the marriage is not registered within 48 hours.”

Until now, there was no time frame to register marriages in India.
