Kuwait eyes 3 year ban on switching jobs for Expats Workers
Kuwait Manpower authority is purportedly considering the implementation of a 3 year ban on expats workers transferring to a new employer after they begin work in the nation, reported GulfBusiness.
As per Kuwait Times, ban would apply to private sector workers from the issuance of their first work permit.
Comparable restrictions are as of now set up for workers at small and medium companies, employees in different sectors can change to new employer following one year with no charge or a half year if they pay a KWD300 fee.
The proposed ban comes as officials in the nation push for the rebalancing of the country’s national demographics. Expats workers currently make up around 70% of the 4.6 million population, but some MPs want it to be closer to 50%.
According to last month reports government was looking for opinions on the likelihood of building up a national committee to rebalance Kuwait’s demographic structure.
This mean Around 1.5 million expats leaving the nation in the coming years, as per a few estimates.
