Circulating rumours will send you to jail : Oman Public Prosecution

Spreading bogus news and gossipy tidbits can get the two residents and inhabitants in Oman three years of detainment, says the nation's Public Prosecution. 

Having seen numerous bits of gossip being coursed over the spread of the coronavirus in different governorates of the Sultanate, the Public Prosecution has clarified that such demonstrations will prompt detainment. 

"Dear resident/occupant: Sending or re-transmitting bogus news or bits of gossip that may hurt open request through different methods for innovation is a wrongdoing that conveys a sentence of three years detainment," the specialists cautioned on their official Twitter handle. 

This, truth be told, came as a reaction to the Ministry of Health's (MoH) request to people in general to follow official news channels with respect to news about coronavirus. 

"Dear devotees, a ton of bits of gossip are at present being circled about various instances of coronavirus expressing new advancements in Salalah, Barka, Al Mudhaibi, Al Mussanah and various different governorates of the Sultanate. We educate you that the entirety of this is inaccurate aside from what has been authoritatively distributed at the MoH," the authorities said.
