Injured Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal bats one-handed in Asia Cup
The opening match of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday witnessed an act of bravado by veteran Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, who, after retiring hurt, returned to bat one-handed in a last-wicket stand that helped his team go past 250 against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium.
Tamim fractured the little finger of his left hand after a delivery from Suranga Lakmal hit him on the glove while attempting a pull shot. He was taken to the hospital, where a scan confirmed the fracture ruling him out of the tournament. But he returned to a rapturous applause when Bangladesh lost their ninth wicket in the 47th over and faced one ball using just the right hand in his partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim (144) to add 32 runs and take the
team's total to 261 all out in 49.3 overs.
The video of the backfoot defence he played with just his right hand then went viral on social media.
