Second wave can be prevented by adhering to measures: MoH
Saudi authorities remain vigilant as they continue to monitor the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to prevent a second wave of the virus engulfing the Kingdom.
Ministry of Health (MoH) spokesman Dr. Mohammed Al-Abd Al-Aly warned that staying on alert at this stage was crucial to prevent that from happening.
The MoH will continue its monitoring campaign of private health facilities to ensure compliance with precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and ensuring social distancing measures are observed. So far, 665 violations have been recorded and referred to the authorities for penalties to be handed down.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom recorded 18 new deaths related to COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the total to 5,489.
There were 450 new confirmed cases reported in Saudi Arabia, meaning 349,386 people have now contracted the disease. There are 7,829 active cases, and 763 of them are in critical condition.
According to the MoH, 67 of the new cases were in Riyadh, while Makkah recorded 51 and Jeddah had 28.
The MoH also announced that 474 more patients had recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 336,068.
In addition, it announced 59,317 new PCR tests had been conducted in the past 24 hours across the country, making the total number of tests conducted over 8.3 million so far.
