Saudi Arabia to give $1bn towards building 'sports city' in Iraq
King Salman of Saudi Arabia is giving Iraq another $1 billion sports city, as indicated by Saudi Minister of Commerce and InvestmentMajid bin Abdullah Al-Qassabi.
No further insights concerning the sports city were given.
In March 2018, then-Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said that Saudi Arabia will subsidize the development of a 100,000 limit sports stadium in Baghdad.
"[King Salman]… offered Saudi Arabia's contribution to build a main stadium in Iraq that suits 100,000 individuals. We have respected the activity and it was proposed today to the bureau," he said at the time.
At the time, the Iraqi bureau was told to set up a team to assemble the arena, which will obscure the 65,000 limit arena as Basra Sports City.
The new stadium was accounted for to be a piece of a "coordinated spots city", albeit no subtleties were unveiled.
The subsidizing declaration came as a designation of Saudi priests made a trip to Baghdad to meet with Iraqi authorities on exchange and speculations.
Notwithstanding Al-Qassabi, the appointment included Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Energy Minister Khalid Al-Falih.
