Heavy rain expected till Sunday, says Met Department

The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection said, most regions of the Kingdom will witness moderate to heavy rain from Thursday till Sunday.

Rain would be accompanied by thunder, sandstorm and snowfall, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Saudi Arabia’s Met department has issued a “code red” warning in parts of the country as thunderstorms and dust storms continue to batter the eastern region, according to local media reports.

The regions expected to experience moderate to heavy rain on Friday and Saturday include Makkah, Jeddah, Taif, Allaith, Qunfudah and Thuwal while numerous different districts, for example, Al-Baha, Abha, Jazan, Al-Qassim, Riyadh, Eastern Province, Hail, Al-Jouf and the Northern Border Region are relied upon to get moderate to overwhelming precipitation and flashfloods on Saturday and Sunday.

The Civil Defense in Makkah area cautioned citizens and expatriates to take most extreme alert and wellbeing measures in case of the proceeding inclement weather in the locale.

Social media users posted pictures and videos of snow-covered streets in southern Al-Taif.
