37 Car Models have been banned from Importing to Saudi Arabia

CAFE fuel economy standards: In accordance to Mr. Hani Al Afaleq, the Head of the Automotive Committee at the Eastern Chamber of Commerce around 37 models of automobiles ranging from various automobile manufacturers have now been banned from entering the Saudi Market.

This news comes following the adoption of the CAFE fuel economy standard in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The CAFE fuel economy standard has now banned the cars that are consuming fuel above a set limit from entering the market in Saudi Arabia.

Used Cars only: Of course, 37 car models which have been banned from entry into the Kingdom are all used car models. This is why Mr. Al Afaleq has asked all of the car dealers dealing in used cars to be especially careful with which car they are importing into the Kingdom.

In this way, they can avoid having a hassle with their cars being stuck at the ports and not being able to enter the Kingdom officially. Cars which have been banned from entry into the Kingdom include the iconic American muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger as well as the Dodge Charger.

The fuel economy of cars has been classified into two types;

• The average consumption of a car is to be set at 10.3 kilometers per liter
• The average consumption of a heavy vehicle is to be set at 9 kilometers per liter

I can say, as a petrol head, of course, is that I am speechless. This list of cars includes each and every car on my dream car list. However, I do believe that such actions by the Saudi authorities must be born of necessity rather than anything else.

The cars which have been banned from entry into the Kingdom include models which hail from sedans to SUVs and everything in between and more. The official list provided by the CAFE website includes the following cars;
