Today In Untapped Talent: Why Are These Actors Not Doing More Movies?
Remember that movie with that actor who is nowhere to be seen now? No? Go stalking online a bit and you will find a host of pictures hash tagged #TakingTimeOff, #FamilyTime, and the likes. But is that a conscious choice? Maybe. Would they rather be acting in more projects? Possibly.
Every year Bollywood sees an influx of talent. There are actors and actresses launched, debates on "nepotism" become a rage, and some actors quietly take a back seat...so slowly that you completely miss their exit (even if it is a temporary one). Until one day when you catch an old song, an old video clip or some conversation about "Hey, whatever happened to that guy?"
So here are some actors we believe have been left untapped, or do more work.
1. Imran Khan
A sketchy graph of hits and misses weren't enough to forget the "chocolate boy" who won countless hearts with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, I Hate Luv Stories, Delhi Belly, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, amongst others. Quite apparently, the actor was versatile in his choice of movies, willing to take up different kinds of roles, and acing many. So then after Katti Batti (2015), why is he nowhere to be seen on the big screen? Because we certainly feel there is a lot of untapped talent waiting there.
2. Manisha Koirala
Remember Bombay? Or Dil Se? Jesus, remember Khamoshi? Those were some phenomenal movies that will be remembered through the years, and Manisha plays a pivotal part in making that happen. Apart from tweeting a lot on motivation and self -care, Koirala was last seen in Dear Maya which garnered a huge praise for the actress but sadly got limited screenings.
3. Prateik Babbar
After strong performances in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Dhobi Ghaat, Aarakshan, the actor was also seen in movies like My Friend Pinto. But why haven't we seen more of him I in mainstream Bollywood movies is beyond me. It is pretty clear the man has talent and should be doing more work, especially with his rugged looks, and depth of acting skill.
4. Suraj Sharma
And then There is the Life Of Pi actor Suraj Sharma, also known for his role in Phillauri and the lesser known film Umrika (which was highly celebrated at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival). For a guy who proved his mettle hard (and how) with his debut movie , one would think he should be doing some really strong, art-house genre films.
5. Nandita Das
Let's just put it out there right off the bat, Nandita Das is so earthy beauty strikes you only a fraction of a second before you realise what a great actress she is. But that's not all: the actress has acted in 12 different languages, and now directs movies. But it will be lovely to see her on the big screen all over again, and should definitely be explored more as an actress.
