Sylvester Stallone’s Escape Plan 2: Hades leaked online in full HD, days before release
Sylvester Stallone’s action sequel, Escape Plan 2: Hades, has been leaked online mere days ahead of its release. High-definition rips of the film were circulated on peer-to-peer file sharing sites, as well as streaming services.
Coincidentally, this isn’t the first time a Stallone film has been leaked. In 2014, the leak of the actor’s action ensemble, Expandables 3, was blamed for its lacklustre box office. A lawsuit was subsequently filed by Lionsgate Movies, who also produced Escape Plan 2, against several online platforms that hosted a copy of the film.
Word of Escape Plan 2’s leak was shared via Reddit, with people wondering whether or not it would affect the film’s box office, and also noted that the film was terrible. “Damn the movie was bad... hands down one of the worst movies i have ever seen, bad CGI, bad editing, bad story bad voice overs and bad acting. they just flushed their budget down the toilet, and add the leak to it. this movie is gonna flop HARD,” one person wrote.
The first film, directed by Mikael Håfström and released in 2013, was a moderate box office success, grossing $137 million against a $50 million budget. The film also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and was about two prisoners staging a breakout.
Escape Plan 2 is directed by Steven C Miller, who has made several direct-to-home video action films. It currently has a 3.8/10 rating on IMDb, based on close to 3000 votes.
A third film in the series has already been announced by Stallone.
Other major films to have suffered a similar fate recently include the Ryan Reynolds-Samuel L Jackson action comedy, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, which made $176 million against a $30 million budget. Many Oscar hopeful films such as Lady Bird, Darkest Hour and eventual Best Picture winner The Shape of Water were also leaked ahead of the Academy Awards. Famously, a work print of Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine was uploaded online weeks before the film’s release in 2009.
