SAR 1 million fine for retaining an employee’s passport, forced labour, slavery and abuse

The Saudi Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution announced on its Twitter account that up to 15 years of imprisonment and/or a fine of up to SAR 1 million will be imposed on employers in the Kingdom that retain passports of employees or force them into working, abuse or threaten them, describing this as “human trafficking”.

 

In case of human trafficking crimes against women, children or people with special needs, the penalties will be increased.
