Is there any mention of Makkah in the Holy Bible?

Makkah is the holiest and sacred place for the Muslims. The Muslims around the world have a great affiliation with the place. Allah Almighty blessed the place with the Holy Kaaba. Makkah has been a sacred place before the time of Holy Prophet PBUH.

The city of greatness has been mentioned in the Holy Quran. However, Muslims do wonder if the city has been mentioned in Bible? They do ponder rather the city was great bliss at that time too? Was it considered sacred at that time?

Someone asked Dr. Zakir Naik, a renowned Islamic scholar, and preacher, that if there is a mention of the city of Makkah in the Bible? To our surprise, his answer was yes.

The bible has a mention of Makkah: Accordingly, in the book of Psalms, chapter number 84, verse numbers 4-7, there is a mention of Makkah. However, it is mentioned as Bakkah. The verse claims that blessed are those people who travel to the valley of Bakkah.

“Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.” – Psalms, chapter number 84, verse numbers 4-7

Bakkah is the Old name of Makkah: Bakkah is another, or you might say the old name for Makkah. The proof is in the Holy Quran itself. If you follow the verse number 96 of Surah Al Imran, you will find the verse claiming that the first place of worship was Bakkah.

Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Bakkah – blessed and a guidance for the worlds. – Quran 3:96

Moreover, whenever you go to Makkah from Jeddah, you will find the signs stating “welcome to Bakkah”.

So yes there is a mention of Makkah in the bible. At that time too, Makkah was a sacred place and people visiting it were considered to be blessed.

If you read Islamic scripture, you find out that the Hajj is a Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim and people used to do it even before the birth of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

In fact, non-believers of Makkah had been welcoming pilgrims of Hajj for around 4,000 years before the birth of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.
